Kenneth Branagh Theatre: The Winter’s Tale

The first season of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company Live promises an exceptional series of plays broadcast to cinemas from London’s Garrick Theatre over the course of a year.

The season begins with The Winter’s Tale. Shakespeare’s timeless tragicomedy of obsession and redemption is reimagined in a new production co-directed by Rob Ashford and Kenneth Branagh, following their triumphant staging of Macbeth in Manchester and Manhattan.

King Leontes appears to have everything: power, wealth, a loving family and friends. But sexual jealousy sets in motion a chain of events with tragic consequences…

The Winter’s Tale will star a remarkable group of actors, featuring Judi Dench as Paulina, alongside Tom Bateman (Florizel), Jessie Buckley (Perdita), Hadley Fraser (Polixenes), Miranda Raison (Hermione) and Kenneth Branagh as Leontes.

Henry V – RSC

Henry V promoWe will be showing Henry V  live from the RSC, Stratford-upon-Avon at 7pm on Wednesday 21st October 2015.

Henry IV is dead and Hal is King. With England in a state of unrest, he must leave his rebellious youth behind, striving to gain the respect of his nobility and people.

Laying claim to parts of France and following an insult from the French Dauphin, Henry gathers his troops and prepares for a war that he hopes will unite his country.

RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran continues his exploration of Shakespeare’s History Plays with Henry V performed in the 600th anniversary year of the Battle of Agincourt. Following his performance as Hal in Henry IV Parts I & II Alex Hassell returns as Henry V.

Hamlet – National Theatre

HamletWe will be showing William Shakespeare’s Hamlet live from the National Theatre at 7.00pm on Tuesday 15th October.

Directed by Lyndsey Turner (PoshChimerica) and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Academy Award® nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s SherlockThe Imitation Game, Frankenstein at the National Theatre) takes on the title role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy.

As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralysed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state.
